Batman

Well continuing with the last post I also saw The Dark Knight on Thursday night at midnight (so that’s technically Friday morning).  It was the best movie I’ve seen in a while, certainly the best superhero movie I’ve seen.  I went in a bit skeptical about the Joker.  I thought all the talk about how great he was was due to Heath Ledger’s death.  Boy was I wrong!  The Joker was the best thing about that movie, he was played to perfection.  The character would be doing horrible things, but the way he did them made you laugh.  I am seeing this movie again, soon.  I recommend it to everyone.

What I’ve been up to…

It occured to me I haven’t posted in a while so here’s a quick update on what I’ve been doing on my summer vacation.

My former roommate got married last Saturday.  It was beautiful.  I had to read and I admit I was a tad bit nervous.  People get the impression that because you are a teacher you must have no problems with public speaking.  This is not true at least for me.  Laura knew this and was a bit worried about asking me to read, but I sucked it up and said yes.  Then what do I do?  I pick the longest passage (it wasn’t really that long).  It was Ecclesiastes chaper 4 verses 9-12.  I picked this one because my friend Kelly referenced it in her blog “a chord of three strands is not quickly broken”  Then a week before the wedding I realize I have to get up in front of a church full of people and say the word Ecclesiastes without messing up.  Needless to say I said that word a rediculous number of times the following week.  Anyway…the reading went fine, my hands shook the entire time and I didn’t look up once, but gosh darn it I said Ecclesiastes right.  The entire wedding went off without a hitch.  Laura and Matt just got back from their honeymoon today and all is well with the Adams family.  I’ve posted some pics from the ceremony and reception.

Fantastic Friends

This weekend I went to visit my dear old friend Kelly (today is her 30th birthday, Happy Birthday Kelly).  Every time I go to visit Kelly and her husband Ryan I am struck by what incredibly good people they are.  I always leave feeling like I am a better person because I know them.  I know it sounds sappy, but its true.  I want to take a moment to tell you about these people.  Kelly is active in her church and is completely devoted to helping people in whatever way she can.  She can make you laugh at anything and find a bright side to most everything.  Ryan will do anything for his family including suffering through monthly visits from me, just because he knows Kelly likes having me around.  He stays at home with Ben, their son, so that Kelly can drag me to all the movies she has been wanting to see (it’s okay Kelly, you know I love going to the movies).  Ryan always carries my bags in for me even after I protest (okay, I don’t protest too much)  He either buys, or makes breakfast every morning and he doesn’t complain.  Ryan and Kelly adopted a little boy from Vietnam last year and they are fabulous parents.  I know it is difficult trying to parent a 4 year old that doesn’t speak much English, but they are doing great.  Their son is happy and thriving, and pretty fun to hang out with.

Finally the event that started this whole love fest…The day I left for my visit I got my license plates renewed and for those of you that don’t know you get actual new plates this time instead of a sticker.  I don’t have the proper toolage for removing my plates so when I get to Kelly and Ryan’s I ask Ryan if he could change the plates.  Of course he says.  Well nothing is easy when it comes to my stuff and Ryan ends up having to go to Wal-Mart buy WD-40 (which he wouldn’t let me pay for) and then eventually saw off one of the bolts so that he can put this plate on.  It took about an hour and it wasn’t cool outside.

See what I mean?  They are just really nice, good people and I’m glad I get to be included in their world.

Kelly and Ryan in 2002

Hello world!

Kelly made me do this, she seems to think I will have something to write about.  I humored her and allowed her to create a blog for me.  The title is all her, although she did get my approval first.  She tells me I should write about all the movies I’ve seen.  I think she is just upset with me because I have seen all the summer blockbusters and she hasn’t.  I will try to make Kelly proud and keep up with this thing.
